mother's day gift

mother’s day was yesterday and i wasn’t able to get anything more for my moms than three handmade candy leis that i made myself and a white rose. it isn’t easy being a struggling artist. what she doesn’t know is that aside from going to school to get healthy and to get going with a career - once I’m able to, i’m going to buy my mom a house.

why? because she deserves a place that she can call her own and start from the ground up. why? because she was with me the nights i shivered in my bed from the flu or was losing weight because of a cold. why? because she is the first woman to ever love me without me having to earn her affection. why? because … she’s my mom.

mom - i don’t know how long it will take for this dream to happen. but one day, i will buy you a house and make it a home. i love you and happy mother’s day … for the future.

ps. “mama’s boy”? yeah!? SO!?

For those of you who may not know, I have my own up incoming line called “u.G.l.y.” which simply means “u.nder G.od’s l.oving y.oke”. On the back is the scripture found in 1 Samuel 16:7 where it tells us “Man looks at the outward appearance but the Lord looks at the heart”. When I die, no one is allowed to wear black. In fact, guys have to wear shorts and ladies in comfortable spring dresses. When you’re seated, you’ll be given a ticket and my eulogy will be read by an auctioneer and everything will be done in ancient languages that no one can understand. My hearse will have hydraulics on it, sitting on some 12’s with hunnet spokes and gold knockoffs hittin’ switches from the parking lot to my final lot playing the ice cream truck song while handing out free WWF wrestling pops and the Ninja Turtle ice cream pops with the bubble gum eyeballs. My casket will be see-through and I will be wrapped in bandages like a mummy. When my casket is being lowered, the crank will play jack-in-the-box music so as to keep everyone wondering “Is he going to pop up?” and a few really superstitious, paranoid folks will try to make sure that my coffin is closed. Throw in a bunch of roses and instead of dirt, bury me in those plastic balls that they use for those “pools” that kids “swim” in at Chuck E. Cheese. That way, when bad little kids are running away from their parents and happen to run over my burial spot, they fall at least 6 feet onto my casket where they’ll come face to face with my corpse that will have a crooked smile and a note on my casket that says, “Be back in 5 minutes”. The only way they can get their kid out is if they use a crane and they have to pay $1 for three tries. What’s great is, they might actually pull ME out instead. That’d be funny.

Maybe it’s because it’s the first “Mom” song I ever heard …

Whatever the case, this song is still my favorite dedication to a mom’s song. Happy Mother’s Day to the women of MY life.
